On March 15th, 1945, Herbert Altner again flies a mission in a Junkers Ju 88, this time, the end is not that favorable from him: he finds himself in front of what possibly was the “business end” of a Mosquito Night Fighter – his Ju 88, C9+AS, is shot up and goes up and flames – the crew escapes by parachute. Unfortunately, the loss is too late in the war to be covered by the GQM Loss Lists.
The night to March 16th, 1945, 54 Mosquitos are attacking Berlin – they all return home safelyMiddlebrook, Martin et al.; The Bomber Command War Diaries; Page 681. Their approach route this time: Zuider Zee – Meppen – Osnabrück – Hannover – Stendal and on to Berlin.
